Lankan eves evaporate Bangladesh's tri-nation hope

Sri Lanka almost assured their final berth in the GrameenPhone tri-nation women cricket tournament beating hosts Bangladesh by 76 runs at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra Monday.It was the second consecutive win for the Islanders in the ongoing meet after a three-wicket victory over Pakistan Saturday while Bangladesh were almost out from the race with two successive defeats following their seven-wicket loss against Pakistan.Favoured by coin, Sri Lankan batted first and scored moderate 211 runs for 9 in allocated 50 overs.Lower order batsman E Kaushalya hit unbeaten 60 runs off 43 deliveries featuring seven fours and one six and was adjudged player of the match.Besides, opener C Polgampola (31), De Silva (30), D Manodora (20), SP Weerakkody (18) and I Galagedera (11) were the notable Lankan players reaching the double figures while another 29 runs came from extras.Sohely Akhter of Bangladesh grabbed three wickets for 23 runs while Champa Chakma and Salma Khatoon took two wickets each giving away 37 and 53 runs respectively.Chasing a target of 212 to win, Bangladesh were all out for 135 runs in 47.5 overs with opener Aysha Akhter making 33 off 90 balls, including three boundaries.Besides, Panna Ghosh scored 20 runs off 32 deliveries hitting three fours, tail- ender Tithi Rani Das made not out 16 off just eleven balls while another 21 runs from extras.C Polgampala captured three wickets for 26 runs while E Kaushalya, SP Weerakkody, De Alwis and C Wickramasinghe took one wicket each.Source:UNB
